Spialia orbifer (Hübner, [1823])   



Systematics: This species has been separated from the similar Spialia sertorius (Hoffmannsegg, 1804) in recent times; the last mentioned species, which occurs only in SW and partly C Europe, has been erroneously reported from Bulgaria in some literature sources.

Range: SE Europe, W and C Asia.

Distribution in Bulgaria: Widespread up to 1600 m a.s.l.

Habitat: Diverse warm open places.

Bionomics: Two generations from April till August. Larval host-plant: Sanguisorba minor (Rosaceae) (Tolman & Lewington 1997).

Conservation status: A common and widespread species. IUCN category: Lower risk, least concern.
